Series: Video without-camera, reinterpreting "camera-world" Berkeley theory "to be is to be perceived". The contraposition of images from my window as "window on the world" through the myth of transparency (film metaphor proposed by Andres Hipano) with images of Film by Samuel Beckett. Overlaying the gaze open to the world with the actions of the man who flees from being perceived. This coming together in the final view that transforms the theme "to be is to be perceived" by "not to be is to be perceived" with the eye of the lens as a destroyer of the visible.

This video explores the subject of vulnerability and transparency by way of speech impediments (stuttering) and the mechanics of speech - breath, muscle tension, rhythm, effort. It is an investigation of what happens in the head and body when speech is no longer natural. Driven by self-reflection through personal experience and physical/emotional states, my intention is for the work to transcend the personal into the universal search for vulnerability. This project is part of a multi-layered, performance-based study on vulnerability.

Contact is one of a series of videos made up of shots from more than 60 films from the Chinese Cultural Revolution period. These videos are not only reexaminations of the cinema of that period but also reflections of history as told through cinema. Contact examines the moments of emotional climax when the ordinary people rise up to become the sublime subjects of Ideology by means of corporeal touch like shaking hands and hugging. The shots extracted from these films are kept at its original length and the artist argued that while working on such a critical subject, keeping the integrity of the shot is the least he can do, in a moral way.

He lived and worked in New York City where he experienced a moment outside of time and space under a street lamp, that he described in his "21 pages". He was travelling with a small circus before he moved to the Greek islands, where he lived for 35 years. “Dakhla” reflects on the concept of uncertainty and the imprecision of a changing reality as an ever-present confrontation. Through a narrative that describes a metaphoric trip to the middle of the sea between two distant points on the same latitude to see life in perspective, representations of the ephemeral and unpredictable emphasize on the idea of a future that feeds off chance and speculation. This work dwells on questioning how uncertainty conditions thought, thus generating new possibilities for the future and reflecting on the probability of a change of course of the past.

Sources of inspiration were Innocenzo Spinazzi’s marble statue, La Religione aka La Velata, now at GAM museum and Cesare Lombroso, the Museum of Criminal Anthropology and one of his seminal texts, The criminal woman: the prostitute, the normal woman (1893). "Deux femmes (for Man Ray)" creates a dialogue with Man Ray’s porno footage that was found in his atelier after his death in a canister titled “Deux Femmes”, shot in 1937. Man Ray’s preoccupation with the female body as sculpture and the imminence of amateur pornography today, were what necessitated a dialogue to me. Adhering to his particular compositions and actions within them, I collected matching shots from online amateur pornos. Then I printed the frames, and presented them in the video as a paper stack. This unhurried process of paper stacking slows down the otherwise speedy porn media consumption and allows us to examine the female body as sculpture today.

Both artists untether their training in premeditated construction and make, act, compose, move, see, and interact in the moment. Can the camera act as a dynamic partner, more than simply a new "stage" or documenting device for the dancer? Can the dancer be more than a subject embedded within the frame and altered by the cut?

This video is an analytical montage of shots extracted from more than 60 films from the Chinese Cultural Revolution period. It exclusively studies the moments of the interpellation of the Ideology (Louis Althusser) which are represented physically by music, words, gazes, gestures and situations found in these films. I keep every shot at its original length because the shot is the minimal unit of the cinema. When we work on such a critical subject, keeping the integrity of the shot is the least we can do, in a moral way. Strictly speaking, Ecstasy does not lend itself to a specific synopsis, but this does not mean that there is nothing to look at in it. The multiple symbols and meanings extracted from a wide range of shots make up the narratives found in this video: The resemblance of the music in different films, the dramatic gazes with catchlights (like they are absorbed by an overwhelming feeling of great excitement, where the title Ecstasy comes from), the repetition of the words (like ‘Mao Zhuxi’, Chairman Mao), the robotic gestures (raising one’s head, turning around), the faces with tears, the symbolic objects which reincarnate the transmission of ecstasy (like needle, spanner and apple) and the exaggerated film techniques (close-up, zoom in). This video is one of a series of videos and they are not only reexaminations of the cinema of that period but also reflections of history as told through cinema.

Rise into being, mature, perish – Fruit tells a creation story. As the animated short film unfolds, it brings forth a play of shapes illustrating the dialog between two mythological forces – the West and the East. In it the vibrating entities of black and white are constantly being split apart and reconciled by red, in a playful and dramatic choreography of forms and figures. The journey is narrated in three parts which function like three rooms that are being crossed. In the first room of this triptych the viewer dives into a cosmos of inorganic, dead matter with astronomic dimensions and simple shapes that oscillate. The second room produces living creatures that exist in cycles of eating and mating. In the third room dwells the human being, incessantly striving, searching, erring. A plant bearing leaves, flowers and a ripening fruit is the recurring motif that runs throughout the entire short film. The polar opposites, black and white, are complemented by the omnipresence of red. As the events progress, they begin to form cyclic patterns. Yet the structure of the story as a whole remains linear. A world awakens, unfurls into a pulsating multiform variety of creatures, and dies once it has completed its course. Fruit reveals itself to be the answer to its own question, an answer that seeks meaning – the Fruit, that nourishes human existence.

There is a reference to the liminal states (called also bardo states), which are crucial points in one´s own journey, according to Tibetan Buddhism. In the video they are altered and marked as zones, through which the character goes in order to reach her final destination. She finds herself seeing distorted images, hearing voices and sounds, which lead her towards her own fears and suppressed emotions.

Study of the face like landscape, screen of the emotions, metaphor of the passage of time and the contradictions that nest in the construction of me. The light as matter of the form, of what the eye sees and does not sees. Direct to the perceptions broken down the given thing like real. Game of shades talking in a mute alphabet on the identity and your fragility. In a world in which the social structure is cracked, where the communication has developed into a game of abalorios and the poetry looks again for your horizon.

Recalling G.Deleuze's definition "The image-affection is nothing other than the foreground, and the foreground, nothing other than the face ... a type of image and a component of all images. ..) there is no foreground of face, face is in itself foreground, the foreground is by itself face, and both are affection, image-affection ". Study of the face as landscape, screen of the emotions, metaphor of the passage of time and the contradictions that nest in the construction of the self. Light as matter of form, of what the eye sees and does not see. Direct to perceptions by restructuring what is given as real. Game of shadows dialoguing in a dumb alphabet about identity and its fragility. In a world in which the social structure crumbles, where communication has become a game of beads and poetry seeks its horizon again.

The nation itself is filled with isolated -- and quite pretty -- areas of nature. But these areas are rarely protected from over-development. One sees this tension especially in Seoul. At that same time, there needs to be an art and a cinema that is not simply a form of "moral scolding". In order to genuinely protect the nature that is there, it is necessary to also develop an aesthetic of meditation and nature being-ness. (This film screened in Athens, 2016.)

A line develops and marks its surrounding space in search of a composition strategy: it multiplies, enlarges, stretches increasing its size up to create more and more complex shapes. It invades all the space around striving to expand further, yet it will go all the way back, forced by a representation limit, to its simple and basic initial state.

"Sampling Argentinian critical and revolutionary films from 1956 to 2006, Los (De)pendientes offers a great step in the conception of film history. Without any words, considering the past, it tells what visual works were faithful to the real issues of their times; considering the present, it shows in which poor condition are these crucial images of life and struggle; considering the becoming, it indicates what remains to be done to reconstruct a fairest and truest history of cinema; considering eternity, it is an auratic poem of bold shadows." This video shows a woman transporting a cumbersome scaffolding through various spacious landscapes and an autumnal forest. Ephemeralstructures composing our urban landscape, the scaffolding characterizes the spectacle of the everyday life and is a common figure of our collective imaginary. While this woman performs this Sysiphean movement, an ambiguity stands out between the object suggesting a fixity and this perpetual passage. It recalls an everyday’s systematization that opposes itself to what is at the most transitory and indefinitely unfinished.

The film offers an indirect self-portrait of the Artaud center in which patients and staff play along in order to give a more human picture of madness. With the advent of the DSM-5 (classification of mental disorders) and a tendency of psychiatry to think of the illness in terms of symptoms rather than focusing on the human point of view, the Artaud centre poses as an alternative.

This film depicts a geographical, architectural, and urban research of a specific area in Shanghai. The reason why I chose to depict this area is that it strongly resembles the Grand Palais area in Paris. From an emotional standpoint, I have a deep attachment to both cities, having lived in both for many years. On the more practical side, I have made this film to express my concerns regarding the urbanization and globalization of Shanghai, elements of which have turned Shanghai into a science-fiction like landscape through the blending of pre-industrial and hypermodern elements. The images presented in this film are not meant to be viewed passively, I want the audience to observe and think through the subject matter freely.

The term “sense of place” may describe both an arrangement of features that makes a place unique and the sensation and perception of place as experienced by the living bodies that belong to it. The body is our general medium for having a world and our relationship to space is inevitably connected with culture and shaped by the kind of bodies we have.

SHOT is an experimental film that tries to make formal sense out of senseless violence. Footage was found from every police shooting over the last two years for which there is available video. Each piece of footage is taken unedited, and aligned -- synchronised to the moment of the first gunshot. The lm is a moving composite, modelled after the composite photographs used by criminologists in the 19th century to try to understand the archetypical thief, rapist, murderer. The end result is an uncanny wave of terror, violence, and outrage.

A young man from Montpellier performs "Wild World" by Cat Stevens. The pictorial aspect suggested by the backdrop evoking nature in terms of fauna and flora, combined with the classical references hinted at by the floral crown worn by the singer, associated with pagan gods, conjure up the savage and Dionysian side of the world. This is echoed by the title of the song and reminds us that the destiny of human beings lies beyond their control, at the mercy of external forces.

Solastalgia is a concept created by environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht to define a feeling of unease tied to the upheavals and mutations we are experiencing today. It is the homesickness we may feel when we are still at home, but our familiar surroundings have grown strange to us. Nowadays, this state of loss of bearings seems to become generalized under the pressure of heightened development. In the Anthropocene Era, affected as we are by the rising world population, climate change, and the transformation of our ecosystems, this may be a form of latent distress that haunts us all.

The work uses the complete transcribed text of the June 2014 orientation video message as delivered from then Australian Government Immigration Minister Scott Morrison. This "message" was played to detained refugees on Nairu and Manus Island in their attempt to arrive to Australia by boat and subsequent capture and detainment. The similarities of our shared namesake are obvious - this work takes the perhaps humorous coincidence and instead looks to provoke and question notions of privilege, representation and authority. The work acts as a broader portraiture of national identity - when the individual, the politician is removed from the original context does it also represent all Australians as the words are representative of Government mandate? The karaoke styled treatment towards the text offers a visual counterpoint - evoking a paradise filled with hope and burgeoning safe shore - as if in a dream.

Thus, it mirrors the impossibility to imagine the promises of a future on the ruins of the recent past, representing in this way a model of a fallen utopia.

Trading stories is in search of clues and tells one or several stories about storytelling and about love. But trading story is no love story. Based on a journey from Hamburg to Qindao in 1905 from the director’s great grandfather, she followed his traces embarking on a containership. Today the route is an important trade lane. Therefore the filmed material is set in a trading context. But in search of the clues the topic evolves sideways into found footage fragments and texts. The story can only be told by using these “sideways” and thus develops into an odyssey on the ocean of symbols, images and feelings. In a collage of the journey’s documentary graphical material, found footage from the internet and films as well as own lyrics and texts from other sources, dimensions and assumed consequences of a globalized, technological and networked world are dealt with on the platform of feelings. The containership’s cargo or load is the cargo and load of the story and all stories as well as the one of love. It becomes the metaphor for the unconscious, a representative of a society’s body, a symbol for the new beginning and the venture of life reflecting its tensions, ambivalences and contradictions. And ambivalence was already the archetype of the ship.

This film was shot in The Monastery of Batalha, a world heritage site that is a wonderful piece of architecture, still unfinished and an inspirational locus for filming as a reflection of moving images. The film happens in the threshold between the material and the intangible as it asks for the viewer's unique perception and emotional engagement with what is (not) happening in the narrative. The video is at odds with the tendencies in video art and it deals mostly with time, a slow time that gets the viewer deep into images and possible meanings and feelings. The non- linear narrative breaks into fragments but to evoke the imaginary, something that moves us but we can't necessarily grasp and explain. In a way, it's a metaphysical experience as well and not a film to excite senses and provoke stimuli in a fast pace. Technology brings up this paradox too: the most contemporary can also be the most anachronic object as it never ends or closes meanings. Each viewer can create his own path as he /she creates his own time for meditation and enlightenment. The musical score was built to evoke both worlds, one as the reflection of the other: the surface and the deep in kind of sound and image alchemy. Loops are horizontal (moving images) and vertical (perception/ film and viewer relationship) expansions of subjectivity and experience.

"The mysterious stirs a reaction: an “ah!” This “ah!” is not an “ah ha!” or “Eureka” — that is, an exclamation of discovering an answer. The “ah!” response to mystery is more a dumbfounded recognition and appreciation of an inexplicable power or presence. For Shinto, though, the point is to accept the awesome as part of the world in which we live. To deny or try to eradicate the wondrous mystery is no less than to run away from home." - Shinto: The Way Home, Thomas Kasulis

The work displays light sources acting in a sort of nocturnal forest; the light shakes the branches and fragments of a sculpture laid on the ground. To achieve it, I began from a static shot, slowly going towards a fragmentation of the the image itself through the light's game. My main interest is on the latency created by the movement of the light, the moments ruled by shadow, when everything is invisible.

Yellow tea cup: refugees at sea records contemporary news footage projected into my immigrant grandmother’s vintage tea cup. The cup becomes a window onto the world, bringing world events closer to home, while evoking the tensions and intersections between private and public, past and present, order and chaos. The contextualizing frame of the tea cup acknowledges the filter of individual experience through which our perceptions are shaped, as we try to comprehend the human dimension of reported events.

"Timeless"... We live in a restless world, which is changing faster than ever. What was true yesterday is already meaningless today. Irena Paskali is seeking in her work "Timeless" for the never changing condition of mankind, the essence of human being. On the one hand, it is the human quest for meaning and wisdom, emblematised by the apple. The little girl, standing on the edge of a small lake, still in the need to find her way into life. Secondly, it is the spirituality of man, who strives for transcendence - depicted by the scenes around the historic center of Ohrid, Jerusalem, the Dome of the Rock, Golgatha - it is also about loneliness and being abandoned, impressive staged through the woman, whose face is not visible - and her slow steps upwards the stone stairs.

A forever-expanding, mandalic circular structure (O), symbolising the universe, is flanked on one side by moving vertical patterns (|) which stand for rain, growth and life, and on the other side by horizontal patterns (—), symbolising earth, drought, and death.
